10 day Detox Completed!! How do I feel?

I've done it, completed my second detox under the guidance of the amazing nutritional health coach and author Lisa Consiglio Ryan.  This time I did one of her seasonal detox plans from her book Go Clean, Sexy You and chose the Spring detox. (previously I did the Renewal Anytime 10 day detox plan).  So what did I do to celebrate? I hear you ask, well I felt soooo good I've decided to do an extra day, yes you heard me right, an extra day! So that will be 11 days of healthy eating, way to go me :-)

So how do I feel?
(No word of a lie to these)
  • I feel alive, on top of the world, happy, relaxed, refreshed.
  • I hadn't realized what a rut I had got myself into, I've always been large sized but I had literally given up on myself.
  • I cannot believe the difference in how I feel both mentally and physically.
  • My email to Lisa 'I cannot thank you enough, honestly you have turned my life around, I hope I can do you the justice of continuing.'

What have I noticed?
  • Firstly my weight, I've lost a dress size and I can actually feel space in my clothes where they used to be tight.
  • My hair is back to being soft and shiny rather than dry and bristle.
  • The aching feeling I had been having has gone. (previous detox also helped with two other conditions I had)
  • My motivation is back and I am taking regular breaks from my work, whether it be to do something round the house, going for a walk with the dogs or simply having a rest.
  • I am exercising more and choosing to do so :-)
  • My taste buds have changed on this second detox, last time I was trying new food I hadn't had before like Quinoa, Almond Butter, this time I'm already used to them.
  • Things I was putting off to do are now getting done and clearing my mind of them.
  • Basically feeling good about myself.

So what about the detox itself?

How did I cope?
  • First of all I have to say Lisa has made this extremely easy, she's provided background, your meal planner, a shopping list, recipes, and after detox recipes and advice.
  • Doing a second detox from Lisa, I felt more confident and took her advise that if I wanted to swap a meal I could, as long as it was on the planner and not new ingredients from the shopping list.
  • I also found that I was now used to certain food that previously I hadn't tried, now I was on the second detox.  Knowing the recipes are created for the detox really helps to follow it through.
  • No gain with pain, they say, this time round I found myself landed with a migraine the first day which lessened to a headache on the second day.  BUT from day three the detox started to work its magic.
  • When I did my first detox I found day 3/4 the hardest to pull myself round but once I got through that I was fine and obviously starting to see the benefits.
  • I didn't feel hungry once, with three meals a day plus two snacks in between then drinks I was absolutely fine.

Tips
  • Once you have done one detox you will find that you have a lot of the larder products already.
  • Vitamins Lisa suggest are optional, I took them and will continue to do so on my next detox.
  • Daily body brushes (Lisa explains how) is a must I noticed a big difference during the day.
  • It's not all about food!  Remember to drink and follow Lisa's advice on what else you should do daily.
  • Don't buy all your fresh produce all at once, remember it's a ten day detox.
  • If you find yourself struggling mentally, say to yourself 'It's only 10 days out of my whole life' I found this really helped when I did my first detox.  There was no need to say it on the second detox though so it must get easier the more you do.
  • You may not like everything on the planner, that is OK, one or two meal/snack swaps from the planner is fine, for me I had to swap a snack as another snack on the planner was more to my taste.
  • Tick the meals/snacks you enjoy so you can do them after the detox.
  • After my first detox, I failed myself by not continuing on the progress I had made, so planning is vital, I had wanted to continue eating fairly healthy foods, so think of ways for your motivation to continue.
  • Take a video of yourself during the detox to remind YOU of how good you feel once it's over so you can remember the difference eating health actually made you feel and the reasons why you wanted to do it in the first place.
My favorite!!  Love Your Liver Juice, what an energizer!!

What's next?
  • Taking my own video, for any low days I have to remind myself why I want to continue my progress.
  • My plan is to try the Summer detox in July, if I can continue improving my weight from now until then, simply by eating more healthier and exercising more, then I can't wait to see the results at the end of it.
  • Although Lisa has tons of recipes and advice, both in her books and on her website for after a detox, beg her to make an After a Detox, what's next? lush book like this was!
If you want to give it a go yourself, believe me you will enjoy the results,

Day 10 completed!! Our Renewal "Anytime" 10 Day Detox Experience

Day 10 completed, can you believe it, wow, we completed all 10 days!!  We followed the detox completely, no cheating, no hunger pangs, no crying lol.  10 whole days!!

So what did we have for breakfast to celebrate a bacon bun, a cooked breakfast?  No chance we haven't gone all this way to ruin it in a matter of days, instead we opted for one of our favorite breakfast recipes from the detox (with a twist) Creamy Fruit Salad, recipe below.

This has been an absolutely great experience, I would totally recommend if your going to do the detox to do it with somebody who is close to you, it's a great bonding experience and you have someone to compare notes with on the recipes, likes and dislikes.  Plus its a great motivator keeping you going.

This isn't something we have done before so we really didn't want to change anything, Lisa, the author, does give you alternative recipes for the second week if you would like to swap but we wanted to stick to the main ones.  We both managed all recipes, some we loved and will continue making and a couple we didn't, but everyone's tastes are different.  The recipes were filling, you ate every 3 hours and we never felt hungry.  It was great to get back into the swing of cooking healthy, natural recipes, these were all quick and easy recipes too which was a big bonus. A lot of the recipes say serves 1-2, for the meals we classed them as serving 1, for the smoothies we classed them as serving two as there was always plenty.

Lisa does mention extra ways to enhance your detox, with daily body brushing, vitamins and full body massage on a certain day, all of which I am pleased to say we did.

The reason I like it being for 10 days is because it gives you longer to get used to eating naturally rather than having a quick diet and then going back to the processed food like we've done over the years.  Another plus point is there are post detox recipes in the book too, to help you carry on the good work you have done.

How do I feel?  I feel proud obviously for sticking to the 10 days, I feel more awake in myself, fresher, happier and I can see the difference in my size, I never weigh myself, I can always tell if I've lost weight by my clothes and looking in the mirror.  Hubbie has actually lost 6 pounds.  We've both had plenty of comments too about the difference in our weight.

Will we do it again?  Absolutely, I would probably think once a year for us would be great, although you can do it whenever you feel the need to renew.

An easy to follow detox that works, with tasty recipes and results at the end, what are you waiting for?

Lisa's Creamy Fruit Salad (after detox)
(swapping the orange and mango, in the detox recipe, for banana and pear)
2 bananas
1 pear
2 Tbsp coconut milk
Directions:
Blend one banana and coconut milk until smooth.  The consistency should be thick.  Toss sliced banana and cubed mango in a bowl.  Top with banana cream and serve, delicious!

Welcome!   Are you ready to get your detox on?

I have so many exciting things in store for you.

If you need a quick pick-me-up after vacation or a binge weekend, Renewal “Anytime” is a perfect body reboot. You can also use this detox if you need to look amazing fast for a wedding, reunion, or big event.

Before you embark on your detox journey, I want to talk about the word BALANCE.

Ahhhh, balance.

You are told to strive for balance in your life. In my opinion, that’s pretty difficult to accomplish. There are so many outside sources that can get you out of whack with life: new job, moving, marriage, trips, environmental toxins…the list is endless.

You can’t control every single thing in your life. You can, however, control what you put into your body and how you deal with stress.

That’s why I developed the Renewal “Anytime” 10 Day Detox. Think of this plan as a clean living jumpstart. You will start with eating clean, whole foods. You will also incorporate exercise, breathing and even dry brushing and massage.

Let’s call it a RE-BALANCE.

Your body is always striving for balance to keep you in optimum health, physically, mentally and emotionally. Even things like the changing seasons, nature and being around other people can move you away from the balance your body craves.

Physically, your blood needs to be at a pH level of 7.365. Have you ever heard of acidity and alkalinity? Maybe in a biology class way back? I don’t want to go into a big science lesson. What I first want you to know is something extremely important—your body loves you. Your body works hard to keep you alive.

With that love in mind, it is valuable to know that your body becomes more acidic over time due to consuming a lot of caffeine, sugar and processed foods, as well as exposure to environmental toxins like pesticides, and most of all stress. The acidity leads to inflammation.

Inflammation leads to chronic disease.

Not good. We don’t want any of that. Doing a gentle cleanse is a great way to re-balance your body by pumping in alkaline foods such as dark leafy greens, veggies and fruits and taking some “me” time.

Managing stress is also a way to help your body re-balance. Try yoga, meditation or breathing exercises over the next 10 days. Or, even easier, while eating your lunch, try sitting still for 5 minutes without the TV on, texting or reading a magazine. Your body is striving for balance so make sure to participate in activities that are relaxing and soulful; alkaline activities.

While your body is working to keep you healthy make sure to get a re-balance once in awhile to help her out. You can reuse this plan after your cleanse. Use the recipes and tips to give your body a reboot each season or when you feel out of whack. Remember that having perfect balance isn’t really doable, but you can get pretty darn close by following the steps in this plan.

I’m so excited to be on this wellness journey with you. Have an amazing detox experience and keep in mind this is not about perfection but about getting a chance to RE-BALANCE.

With love,
Lisa x

Renewal “Anytime” Detox…How It Works Renewal “Anytime” Detox is for 10 days…10 days of discovering new things about your body. How glorious!

Here’s how it works:
  • Read this entire book, cover to cover, before you head to the grocery store.
  • Check your pantry. Do you have leftover quinoa or a spices that can be used for the cleanse?
  • Don’t go and buy extra items. Stick to the list, especially if you have a budget. You might have some of the ingredients hanging out in your cupboard or fridge. *Most items can be found at a natural food store. Just ask anyone in the produce section or bulk section for items you are looking for. Don’t take a lot of time searching for items. Ask for help. *I like to buy my grains like quinoa in the bulk section of the grocery store; saves me a little cash plus I can get the right amount I need for a recipe.
  • Make sure to follow the Daily Practices such as breathing and dry brushing so you have an overall holistic experience with your detox.
  • Journal during your cleanse to jot down feelings, observations, etc… This is a nice way to get to know your body better and make that body-mind connection even stronger.
  • Use the “Return to Life” section of this book to ease back after detox. Make sure to focus on what foods you don’t need or just want to introduce slowly. This packet can guide you towards a plan afterwards. As you know, each person is uniquely different, so customize your next steps per your body, schedule, and lifestyle.
  • Use the BONUS recipes after your detox to keep the glow going. These recipes will also help you ease back into “regular life” without shocking your system.
Our Book Review
This was such a thoroughly planned out book by the author, it guides you through the detox programme very easily, leaving you with the confidence to actually start it on your own.  She has such a friendly approach in the book, it's as if she is right there beside you willing you on.  She does highly encourage you to first fully read the book BEFORE starting the detox, so you can grasp all the information for the best possible outcome,  I took advantage of this whilst on my holiday to do just that and I was ready to begin when I returned.

I found Renewal Anytime very straightforward to follow, full of quick recipes that genuinely sound tasty and enjoyable, answers to common questions, along with plenty of tips and advice.  The daily menu's are already planned out for you, breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, mid-afternoon snack and dinner, Don't be concerned about not liking a particular recipe as the author has also included extra recipes in case you want to substitute. Lisa has literally thought of everything you could possibly need to ensure your detox goes as smoothly as possible, even when you finish your detox and may think to yourself 'now what?' Lisa has included recipes so you can continue the progress you have made.

It's not all about food of course and Lisa advices you on other beneficial ways to help the detox work better, such as daily body brushing, stretching, exercising, drinks.

One tip, if your anything like me, I started listing all the ingredients I would need to begin, but there is no need as Lisa has already prepared the shopping list for you.  Some books I have had in the past have lots of ingredients I have never heard of. not to detox but to simply eat healthy, so it was quite a pleasant surprise to see all the familiar items on the shopping list.

On our return from holiday both hubbie and I started the detox and we are currently on day 4.  We've found the recipes easy to make, tasty and we're not feeling hungry in between meals and snacks, so let the re-balance begin!  Watch out for my follow up post xx
