Barbara's vivid and dramatic stories, told with a wicked sense of humor, will make you laugh out loud. She definitely gets what living with rescued dogs (nine of them!) is all about. This book will inspire you with the couple's unstinting love, devotion, and respect for dogs as family members. You'll be glad to include it in your treasured collection of great dog books.
When Barbara meets her future husband, Ray, it is love-and dog-at first sight. Over the course of thirty-two years, seventeen relocations and nine dogs, their mutual love of dogs guides them on their unconventional path. The love that Barbara and Ray get in return is literally lifesaving, with one dog attacking a lethal intruder and another discovering Barbara’s cancer. Her own survival story underscores the story of how her dogs become survivors themselves.
Each new dog adds its own dynamic to the family, sometimes upending it. From Turbo (whose Spock-like ears may have provided super powers), Barbara learns about the will to live; Lexington demonstrates incredible patience and an inexplicable love of golf; Madison teaches that laughter is truly the best medicine and that the whole “nine lives thing” is not reserved just for cats; Morgan should be sainted for tolerating Izzy, who is as cute as she is bad. Barbara is certain that somewhere in doggie heaven there is a poster that says “If you are sick, injured or in need of really expensive medical care, FIND THESE HUMANS!”

DeleteI have 4 dogs, and they are always doing cute things! The cutest is when my French Bulldog falls asleep and his tongue starts to hand out.
ReplyDeleteFour dogs, wow !!
DeleteI once fostered a bulldog that could roll over - not something a lot of folks teach them and not something they're always willing to actually do!
ReplyDeleteWe called him the "Dog of Thunder", because he bravely protected us from that horrible noise during rainstorms via his barking. Sometimes he had to bark for HOURS to scare the storm away, but it aways eventually skulked off.
Oh I so know about that lovely protective bark with thunder and fireworks lol x
DeleteA bulldog rolling over would be a great YouTube video!
DeleteI wish I had a big house with lots of property--I would fill it with rescue dogs and cats!! (and maybe even some birds)-Can you tell I love animals? Of not go take a peek at my facebook fan page!!

DeleteBoth of my dogs constantly do cute things, especially my clown of a Sheltie. Hard to pick just one... but I think the best story was back when he was just a puppy. If I didn't have my full attention on him, he was crated so he didn't have the opportunity to get into mischief. He was never outside alone. Every once in a while, though, he'd run out of a room ahead of me and I'd be following him a few seconds after. When I'd catch up to him, he'd be carrying a big stick in his mouth! This happened several times over the course of a couple months. To this day, I can't figure out how he was smuggling the sticks into the house or where he was hiding them!
ReplyDeleteMy dog is so funny, he is ALWAYS doing something silly! I think it's hilarious when he takes a super long time (getting it just so, to his liking I guess) to burrow under the blankets, face and all but leaves his booty uncovered. Then if he hears somebody, he puts his nose out and peeks.

I have eight dogs, including three rescues! I wouldn't have it any other way! Love my fur kids! They do cute things all the time....one of the cutest that is happening as I type this is my nine pound rescue chihuahua sleeping on top of the 70 lb rescue pit bull....those two are the best of friends...and my hubby who is just fell asleep on the couch has another cute thing happening....he's asleep....his girls are all over him....one is on his left side, one on his right side....one on top of the couch with her head on his and her paws wrapped around his neck and the fourth sitting between his legs watching tv as the rest sleep.... Another cute thing is when one of the rescue kitties, a neutered male at that, grabs one of the little dogs and licks their head....or when they take turns head butting the kitty affectionately.... Cute things happening all the time here....lol. I would enjoy this book....love dog stories. Thank you for the chance to win.
