“A Story Embroiled in a Heated Deathly Cover Up”

Deadly Ties by Maggie Thom immediately drags the reader into this convoluted story that has so many twists and turns it keeps the reader guessing until the very end. Thom does an excellent job in getting you to immediately relate and believe in each of the characters. You either empathize with them or despise them and all their character flaws. Filled with suspense and romance this story will grab your attention as you learn about all the secrets, lies, backstabbing, and hints at true love.
Kyara, the main character is brave yet vulnerable as she sets out to reveal exactly why her family is embroiled in a heated deathly cover up that spans years and under the nose of a whole town ruled by a filthy rich family the Jesperson’s. She finds an unlikely friend in Ryan, who is also caught up in all the deceit. Kyara, although unwilling to trust anyone uses her handsome new friend to try to discern facts from lies. Ryan himself was unwittingly dragged into managing the golf course for his wayward, filthy rich high school buddy, Jaspar Jesperson.
Another key figure in the story is Kyara’s grandmother Getty, who is a newly released convict serving time for a murder she didn’t commit. You almost want to see succeed in her plot against her nemesis, the matriarch of the Jesperson family. Kyara harbors deep resentment against her grandmother for what she put her through and what she feels she did to her mother and entire family since Getty never did reveal the truth about her innocence. Being the granddaughter of an infamous killer makes Kyara believe that her grandmother is the force behind all the evil that is attacking the town. Little does she know that soon her sleuthing will uncover years of PCB poisoning at the hands of the Jesperson’s.
