Bitten
by Alan Moore
Book Description
In the not-too-distant future, Italy is in disarray. It has voted to leave the EU in an attempt to regain control of its laws, finances and commerce. Even so, the country's economy is shrinking and its national debt rising. There is a marked escalation, too, in unemployment, bank loans and immigration. Production and service companies are in difficulty. The only thriving business areas are the black market and organised crime. There is discontent and protest on all sides. In Florence, the local Mafia boss, more accustomed to gunrunning and trading in plutonium, is involved in organising a silent auction for the sale of one of the world's most valuable lost paintings - a sixteenth-century masterpiece, which was appropriated in World War II by Stalin's Trophy Brigade. A British art expert is set to buy the picture on behalf of his client, a South American billionaire - yet surprisingly two Italian undercover intelligence agents, acting as antique dealers, submit the winning bid.
All the while, human beings continue to harm the Earth by destroying land, sea, air, animals and trees. Global climate change, polluting the atmosphere, depleting the ozone layer: these are some of man's crimes against Nature. But time is running out. Nature has lost patience with humans. Unless something is done immediately to reverse the destruction of the ecosystem, Nature will retaliate by deploying the terrifying forces at her command. And as a first step in wreaking her revenge, she instigates a reign of terror by the deadliest creature on Earth.

Hubbie's Review
This book has a lot to it, several different players are in Italy and all for a different reason along with secrets of their own.
The book starts off a little bit confusing but it is well worth bearing with it as the author draws everything together to bring it to an excellent conclusion and climax.Everyone is in Italy and the country is in a state of disarray as well as being under attack from a mosquito infestation. A valuable painting is up for grabs to the highest bidder on the black market being wanted by the local Mafia boss who is being chased by undercover agents from several different countries who have an interest in owing the painting.
The cleverness of the story line is each chapter is split up to keep us updated on what is happening in each sector of Italy. Our heroine who is trying to find out why the mosquitoes are attacking people and whether it is it down to global warming, her partner who is trying to locate the lost art work and who is selling it, and the power and influence of the Mafia. The characters and twists and turns will keep the reader interested, the love scenes are explicitly described and are vital to the plot. The real story is all about how powerful man is compared to nature with his greedy intentions and jealous nature against the full force of Mother Nature and when she want something she just takes it. Now man has started global warming and nature is changing to accommodate man's influence can the human race deal with the full impact or even find a solution to stop her?
This book is a rip roaring ride and you can imagine nature producing the odd phenomenon with the evolution of mans development and on the other side the evil of certain people in our world and the need to bring them to justice.
