Book Review - The Fabulous@50 Re-Experience:
It's never too late to refresh your mind, body and spirit and you don't have to do it alone
by Dianna Bowes, Deborah Smith
Book Description
Baby Boomer women have spent decades suppressing their own wants and desires, and losing themselves in the expectations and demands of culture, parents, partners, and children, working hard to please and care for almost everyone but themselves. They've been misunderstood by marketers, politicians, millenials, most men .. and last but not least, themselves.
The time has come for these strong, beautiful, and fabulous women to discover, reveal, and honor their true selves. The time has come for them to re-expereince life as they've known it, and to celebrate life as it can be.
If you're a Boomer woman in personal crisis needing to reinvent your life, facing divorce, life-threatening illness, financial disaster, or the crushing loneliness after the kids have grown and gone, if you are asking yourself, "Now what?" and fearing that it might be too late for you and your dreams ... this book is for you.
The Fabulous@50 Re-Experience
From Dianna Bowes, visionary foundress of Fabulous @ 50, The Fabulous @50 Re-Experience is a living, breathing, sweet and sassy guide to remind you that you're not alone ... and it's not too late for you to thrive.

Our Book Review
Are you ready for a new chapter in your life? A new side of you, or perhaps the real side of you to finally come through?
Although not yet in my fifties I found this book quite appealing as I am approaching that age. This was a really interesting book that encourages you whilst reading it to reflect upon on yourself, your life and situation you might find yourself in. You will find the authors advice and guidance friendly, full of positivity, holding your hand as she guides you on a new journey in your life, willing you on. The book includes journal areas where you can write down your thoughts prompted by the author or answer questions that she raises and also serves as a great reminder if you re-read the chapters to your original thoughts. I found it quite amazing how, on two fairly simple questions, I didn't know how to answer, especially as the question was about me and my feelings, I literally sat with a blank expression trying to think how to answer, followed by relief to find the author had provided some suggestions in case it proved too difficult!
I did find myself smiling and laughing at the humor in parts of the book. I also found that the book really made me think and actually confirmed certain things that I already felt but brought them to the forefront of my mind as well as realizing the one thing stopping myself reaching my goals was me! The author has split the book into stages of change and has included many true stories from other affected 50'ish 'Boomer Women' (as the author describes them) so you know your not on your own and can understand how change can happen. You will find facts, quotes, drawings, references to other related reading as well as a really useful reference and resources guide at the back of the book.
An insightful read signposting you to a more fulfilling, meaningful, next chapter of your life, a special time for 'you'.
About the Author
Dianna is a shining example of how to get the most out of life as a “seasoned” woman. At a time when most of us look to relax in front of the TV, she is out in our Alberta communities creating a dynasty! And in her “spare time,” she turns her time and talents to family and friends, graphic design, painting, biking, cross-country skiing and fulfilling a host of volunteer commitments. Though Dianna is now a successful entrepreneur and inspiration to many, she had to overcome many barriers to get there. Raised by grandparents in a dysfunctional family, Dianna was shy and lacking in self-confidence as a child and young adult. She married at 20, but tragically her new husband was killed in a explosion within a year. She remarried a few years later and was blessed with two children who are the light of her life. But the marriage was rocky and further eroded Dianna’s self-esteem. A serious health problem (tumour on her vertebrae) in her 40s brought things to a head and the marriage ended. Rather than wallow in despair, Bowes decided to take control of her life. She recreated herself into the woman she always wanted to be by focusing on personal development and coaching. When her 50th birthday was approaching, she started Fabulous@50 (a community for seasoned woman) and has never looked back. Now confident and poised, Bowes is dedicated to helping other women through their life changes and challenges. Bowes has won numerous awards for her work: a 2014 Leader of Tomorrow Award from Business in Edmonton, 2011 YWCA Woman of Distinction Award (Turning Point category) The 2014 New York Stevie Awards in two categories: Women Helping Women (Bronze) and Best Event (Gold). 2015 New York Stevie Award - Top Canadian Entrepreneur (Bronze).

Sounds like a great book and it comes with a giveaway; what could be better than that?
ReplyDeleteIt seems many 50+ women have gone through these types of life experiences.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure my mother could relate to a lot of this and it gives me some insights for what may be to come. :) It seems most any woman would fit into one of the Boomer categories in one way or another. Thanks for making it a giveaway, too!
ReplyDeleteI am 52 and have been in a slump for most of the last ten years due to health reasons. I decided a few months ago to turn things around and this book really think this book will be helpful.
ReplyDeleteI'm way past my 50's--but I imagine this book might make me remember what went on back then. Eventually I will read this book!
