Nate Braden is 28, a soldier and has had a huge crush on his best friends sister, Jewel forever. Jewel is 22, and has a huge amount on her plate since the death of her father and more recently, brother (Nate’s best friend).
Nate is on a weeks break from the military and desperately wants to avoid Jewel and try to bury his feelings for her, but at the same time is drowning with guilt after promising Rick that he’d look out for the family…and then Jewel has an accident that throws a real spanner in the works.
This book showed a different side to Melissa’s writing, the grief and emotional turmoil of the main characters was in points overwhelming but the connection between them and the way their relationship builds made the book really compelling for me. I was heartbroken, elated, frustrated and giddy at varying points throughout this book and when I finished it, rather than deleting it from my Kindle bookshelf and holding it in the cloud, I left it there to be read again soon as I am certain I misread bits through my tears.
5/5 for Melissa. I think this one may be my favourite, I do so love a book that makes me cry!
