Book Review - After the Goode: A Jake Roberts Novel (Book 3) by Cary Allen Stone

Book Review
After the Goode: A Jake Roberts Novel (Book 3)
by Cary Allen Stone

Book Description
Jake Roberts' superiors in Atlanta Homicide gave him a choice––retire, or face criminal prosecution. Jake went beyond the rules to capture serial killer Jared Hamilton. Jake decided to retire and move to Los Angeles with his Hollywood agent girlfriend Caitland where he writes best-selling crime novels. They decide to take a mini-vacation to visit his best friend in Phoenix.

Bobby Goode is a superstar comedian. During his opening night in Phoenix, he humiliates a heckler. After the show, the heckler stalks Bobby with a baseball bat. Defending himself, Bobby shoots the man. He panics from the fear that he will lose his fame and fortune if anyone finds out.

At the crime scene, Phoenix homicide detectives Wynter Williams and Vince Farina investigate a charred body and torched Cadillac. They invite Jake to consult on the case. Jake later determines that it is Bobby they are looking for. On closing night, inside the comedy club, Jake and Wynter arrive to arrest Bobby. "Shots fired!"

Our Book Review
Welcome back to my new favourite detective Jake Roberts who has recently been forced to retire from the police force.  On his vacation he is asked to consult on a murder case.

The excellent thing about this authors style of writing is that he keeps the text and language simple with exceptional character traits of the main characters. He cleverly let's the reader know who the killer is and an excellent game of cat and mouse ensues between killer and detective, which provides a wonderful page turning thriller. The writer shows a talent for how the night club show scene works and what traits and dedication to that particular lifestyle you need to be a success. As a reader you will find yourself totally engrossed in following Jake's new choice of lifestyle and will find out what he really wants to do.

The story keeps the reader totally enrapt till the last page and finishes on a real climax. The creation of Jake Roberts rates alongside James Patterson's Alex Cross and Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks, who all concentrate on the personal psyche and lives of the detectives.

About the Author
Cary Allen StoneCary Allen Stone is a brilliant writer of psychological thrillers and murder mysteries. He writes with a keen eye for detail-the graphic violence is chillingly realistic. He delivers a taut, darkly introspective, cunning and well-executed plot by leaning towards the fallible side of his characters. He understands the criminal mind avoiding the stereotypes that dominate crime thrillers. There is a good balance of chemistry and conflict, good and evil that fans will find enthralling. His characters become embedded in our psyches and the pace of his unraveling of his thriller is a ride not easily forgotten. Cary Allen Stone is an important name to watch. This is one superb crime writer!--Grady Harp Top 100 ReviewerVine Voice 2014

  1. This is the kind of book I think the wife will like. I tend to just read books on War and biographies.
