Book Review
Edge of End
by Suren Fant
Book Description
What I'm going to say sounds crazy, but what is life without craziness? I woke up a new man; I'd been reborn, before me a new fate with only the blackness of nothingness behind. I had no memory, only the emptiness that lay ahead. Ask yourself, what would you do?
Some will say my story is crazy, most of you won't believe it, but this story must be told.
Before I start I have to say one thing - this story has changed my whole life.
Jonathan wakes up in a desert, his past wiped from his head. He's alone having no clue who and what he is, where he has come from and where he should go. There is only one way - forward when he spots a little town in the distance.
Empty streets, old houses, the town seems abandoned. There's no one to ask for help, there's nowhere to go. Jonathan wanders the town in search of any sign of life trying to bring his lost memories back, but odd visions haunt him from time to time. Soon Jonathan comes to the realization that he's moments from death as absolutely evil dwells in the town seeking fresh souls to suck up. The seemingly dead town is only outwardly empty.
Grey skies, no sun, no days and no nights. The town is stuck in time. With only one entrance and one exit, but the way leading to the exit is filled with creations that Jonathan has never envisioned, even in his worst nightmares.
Who is he? Who brought him here? With a female resident - Elizabeth, Jonathan has to work his way through the horrendous town, figure out his past and find the exit.

Our Book Review
A really thought provoking novel which will make you think a lot about how you react and behave to others. The story begins with a man lost in the desert and his only way out of it is to head for the town. On arriving in the town he has no memory and has visions, each vision prompts thoughts of his past. He then meets a lady and a mentor who has been stuck in the town since he had died. The main character then realises that he has one last chance in the town to prove his worth before he is cast into hell.
The book is very well written and uses the town and houses in it as the problems and the hurt the person has caused and to get through and redeem themselves to be given another chance.
The message that I picked up from this interesting novel was why wait till it is too late to put things right, face and tackle the problem and move on. The outcome of tackling the issue may not to be your liking but at least it has been dealt with, giving you the freedom to tackle the next one with a clear insight and making the correct decision.
A thought provoking novel which is very cleverly written around an issue that we all think about on a daily basis.

About the Author
Born and raised in Yerevan, Armenia, Suren has been interested in mystery and fantasy stories and movies from an early age, that's why in the books and short stories he creates there is always an unpredictable mystery.Suren doesn't like stories with unreal and predictable happy-endings. The end of any story should have sense which makes the book better and real.
Suren started writing when he was sixteen. His first novel, called "He", is only available in Armenian and is free on the internet. In 2011 he decided to translate his writings into English for a bigger audience. Translation isn't easy work to do, it's more difficult than writing in English from the start. In 2013 Suren gave up translating and began to write in English at once. Now he writes the same book in two languages.
Every time watching a new fantasy or mystery movie, or reading a book, Suren wonders how far a human's mind can go. Every time, he feels that there is still a long place to reach, a long way to pass. The world outside of Earth is much bigger.
It's too difficult to reach any American or British agent when you live far away, but Suren didn't give up and one day he received an email from a publisher who was ready to work on his novel. That novel is called "The Godless", and is Suren's favorite out of all his other writings. Suren still lives in Yerevan with his wife and son.

Wow this seems a book you could really get into. I don't read a lot of books since having children but I think reading keeps you're mind ticking over and this book would be a good addition to any bookworm's bookcase for that reason :) xx
ReplyDeleteI definitely know I would be able to get into and enjoy reading this book. This is going on my short list of tbr--not just on my ever growing one.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds intriguing. Seeing as he woke up in a deserted place my first worry was that there was going to be no other characters in the book aside from him and that would be a bit daunting to read. I am glad your review showed us that other characters would be involved as well.
