Barbara's vivid and dramatic stories, told with a wicked sense of humor, will make you laugh out loud. She definitely gets what living with rescued dogs (nine of them!) is all about. This book will inspire you with the couple's unstinting love, devotion, and respect for dogs as family members. You'll be glad to include it in your treasured collection of great dog books.
When Barbara meets her future husband, Ray, it is love-and dog-at first sight. Over the course of thirty-two years, seventeen relocations and nine dogs, their mutual love of dogs guides them on their unconventional path. The love that Barbara and Ray get in return is literally lifesaving, with one dog attacking a lethal intruder and another discovering Barbara’s cancer. Her own survival story underscores the story of how her dogs become survivors themselves.
Each new dog adds its own dynamic to the family, sometimes upending it. From Turbo (whose Spock-like ears may have provided super powers), Barbara learns about the will to live; Lexington demonstrates incredible patience and an inexplicable love of golf; Madison teaches that laughter is truly the best medicine and that the whole “nine lives thing” is not reserved just for cats; Morgan should be sainted for tolerating Izzy, who is as cute as she is bad. Barbara is certain that somewhere in doggie heaven there is a poster that says “If you are sick, injured or in need of really expensive medical care, FIND THESE HUMANS!”

DeleteMy yorkie can open the windows on our van by accident and it makes us laugh everytime. He just hops up to look out the window and accidentaly hits the button. It scares him and makes us all laugh.
ReplyDeleteThe funniest thing my dog does and howl. I can start talking in a high pitch voice and she starts doing the doggie talk then i start howling and she does it right along with me. My husband gets the biggest kick out it. He's jealous cause she won't do it for him lol
ReplyDeleteJust one funny thing? Oh my, there have been many! I have to share my NewBe who destroyed every one of my Aunt's potted plants when she was a puppy! I even have a photo of her caught in the act on her very own web page: http://www.squidoo.com/named-for-new-beginnings

ReplyDeleteOur shitzu loves cheese! Whenever we open the cheese wrapper, he goes CRAZY!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. That's a tough question. I think its funny when she howls in her sleep!
ReplyDeleteThe funniest thing my dog has every done was when I took him to get fixed he barked and tried to play with a painting of Lab that was on the wall of the waiting room.He was disappointed when it wouldn't play back.
ReplyDeleteWhen you put on a sweater on our dog she walks sideways -- it's so funny!
ReplyDeleteThe latest was this week past. I had finally got the grandchildren settled so that I could take a quick shower (usually the youngest starts yelling & banging on the door within 2 mins), when Charlsie decided to take her place. He was barking & dancing so much, I assumed that his senior bladder needed relieving. Out I jump, race downstairs (where all 3 grandchildren were watching a movie)....& he wanted help getting into bed.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy books about dogs, especially rescue dogs. I fostered a rescue bulldog for a few months; he was the only one I'd ever known who knew "roll over".
ReplyDeleteWell I have a dog that moo's like a cow. He mimic's the cow next door.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a cat who ate salad. He would literally go bonkers when he would see me grab the lettuce from the fridge.
ReplyDeleteMy cat Tinker chatters her teeth and makes a really weird noise when she sees a bug! It's so funny to watch her. She sits down and turns her head while watching the bug and then chatters. I have never seen a cat do that before!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving these stories, thanks guys. I could fill a book with all our two dogs do aswell :-)
ReplyDeleteThese stories sound really sweet! :)
ReplyDeleteMy dog prances like a show horse. It's so cute!
ReplyDeleteMy cat has a shoestring that she thinks is her baby. She drags it around with her most of the time. Sometimes I find it draped in the food bowl and I often see her giving it a bath in the water bowl. Very cute!
