Alex Troutt Thriller, Book #3
“If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.”
FBI Agent Alex Troutt has no intentions of falling for anything. Apparently, neither do the bad guys, as the Boston area is once again targeted by extremists. Boston Strong of just a few years ago is now Boston on Edge. And this time, the targets are men of the cloth—priests.
At least that’s how it looks at first.
As investigators struggle to make sense of the bombings, Alex is thrown for a loop when the FBI assistant director asks her to investigate one of their own—a colleague and friend who is suspected of having ties to a known terrorist. Torn between her values of friendship and the oath she gave when she accepted her FBI credentials, Alex must now lead two investigations simultaneously.
The bombings don’t stop, and panic sets in as the carnage spreads beyond the realm of the original targets.
Bloody Sunday. The IRA. The movement toward peace. Wounds of decades ago have reopened, bleeding all over Boston. As she pieces together the puzzle, Alex begins to wonder just how innocent her colleague really is. It’s almost too much for her to fathom.
Just how far will someone go to make a stand?
Guest Book Review by Elizabeth Towns @ 31 Days Early I Rise
Alex Troutt is surrounded by her top notch team FBI team mates and joined by Boston Detectives on the search for who is detonating bombs around the city, which at first seem tied to Catholic Priests, but soon enough branch out to seemingly unrelated targets. What’s scarier is that some of the clues even link to back to the case that resulted in the death of her partner and the subsequent loss of her memory – parts of which still have not returned in full.
The AT mystery series follows the ace detective as she recovers from the original incident and rejoins her FBI team, since she can’t remember the original reason she went solo. Bit by bit, her life is coming back together, in both new and old ways. One thing is not lost – her ability to solve crimes. This particular case spans across countries touching Ireland, Saudi Arabia, Paris and the United States and the suspects are inside and outside of the police department.
John W. Mefford writes Alex’s story so skillfully over the AT series, deepening the back story with every new entry and adding more intrigue with new players. Readers get to find out more about Alex as a mother, a detective and a woman in general. Her love interests are peaking and the development of her character is creating a well-rounded picture of the amazing detective. Mefford is also building such an intensely incredible team of young detectives around Alex, and sometimes it’s hard to tell which ones are part of the conspiracy from her past, and which ones are loyal.
All of that keeps me coming back for more of the Alex Troutt series – every time!
