Suspicious
by Heather Graham
Cold-blooded predators lurk in the Everglades—and not all of them are gators
When Jesse Crane returned to his roots to serve on the Miccosukee police force, he'd hoped to leave behind the violence of the city and the memories of his murdered wife. But bodies start to pile up in Jesse's corner of the sultry Florida swampland…
As he probes these crimes, Jesse is drawn to the beautiful Lorena Fortier, a new hire at the local gator farm and research facility. Lorena is a little too interested in Jesse's investigation, but before he can uncover her true motives, they're both pulled into a dangerous web of greed, ambition and animal cunning. To survive, they'll have to decide whether they can trust each other…before the hunters become the hunted.

The Sheriff of Shelter Valley
by Tara Taylor Quinn
Six months ago, Beth woke up with no memory of her past, a bruised face and a little boy who called her "Mama." Until her memory returns, the most dangerous thing she can do is to fall for the sheriff—the one man who can uncover the truth and destroy the person she's become.

About the Authors
I love Arizona. Anyone who knows me, or has followed me,
probably knows this. The mountains speak
to me. I feel the spirit in them. The sunshine heals me. If I am down, I need only to step outside to
feel healing begin. And unlike most
Arizonans, I even love the heat! I live
for those hot summer months that most of my fellow residents dread.
Several years ago my editor suggested that
I might want to write a series of books set in the same town. I could pick any town, big or small, real or
fictional. I pondered for a day or
two. Took the question with me as I went
about my life. And the one thing that
kept coming back to me, not from a sales standpoint, or even a larger than life
one, was that I had to set my town in Arizona.
Because if this series was a success, I was going to be spending a lot
of mental and emotional time in this town.
I was going to have to want to be there.
I was going to have to love it.
So that my readers would want to be there – and love it – too.
I wanted a fictional town. If I was going to take on this huge project,
I wanted it to be my own. My
people. Restaurants as I wanted them. The type of school system I chose. I wanted this to be a university town and
didn’t want to get involved in the legalities of using an existing school. I wanted it to be a small town. Out in the dessert at least an hour away from
a major city. I wanted blue skies and
mountains. An Indian reservation
nearby. And, okay, there could be a golf
course. But only because it wouldn’t be
an Arizona town without one.
I needed a name. I made some suggestions to my editor. Her very sweet reply to me was ‘we’ll keep
thinking.’ I knew what that meant. So I pondered some more. Spoke with her some more. Until the morning she called me to tell me
she knew the name of my town. She’d been
on a trip with her husband over the weekend, heading to some property they had,
and she’d seen a street sign. Shelter
Valley road. It hit her in a way
dramatic enough that she called me about it.
And as soon as I heard the name, I knew, too. It was perfect. This was my town. Shelter Valley. A place where people who are hurting from the
bumps and bruises of life could find shelter.
Solace. Forgiveness. Protection.
And most of all, love.
There are currently fourteen books set in
Shelter Valley. Most of them aren’t
connected, other than by a town.
Sometimes you run into people you know there. Sometimes you don’t. A couple have direct or indirect
spin-offs. Most don’t. The Sheriff of Shelter Valley is one of my
favorite Shelter Valley books. Greg Richards appeared as the Sheriff of my
town sometime in the early days. He’s
older now, but still the Sheriff, as I sit here, writing this blog, and
contemplating the next proposal I’m going to be sending in. I’ve been told my editor would like to see me
go back to Shelter Valley. I hope you
all will join me here…
