The dogs came with and we took them on the beach for a good run, they love water so keeping them out the sea is almost impossible.
A stroll to the harbour led us to The Lookout cafe where we enjoyed a delicious bacon and sausage bun with a cuppa, while looking out over the harbour and lighthouse and watching the sea thrash against the sea wall. While we were there we found the East Durham Heritage and Lifeboat Centre, which houses the George Elmy lifeboat. The lovely lady who works there explained to us the full story, that the lifeboat had been involved in a tragic disaster more than 50 years ago after it capsized during a rescue in huge seas off Seaham in which nine people died.
Tummy's filled and dogs tired we headed to the car show. My hubbie has a long time obsession with Campervan's so he was delighted to see two were in the show, although I did panic at one point when I noticed one of them was for sale and had visions of us driving home in it. Here are some of our favourites.
I don't know if we have been watching way too much Prison Break recently but I was so excited to see this one. At the moment we are quite heartbroken as we've come to the end of the series and it was truly emotional!
Yes this is a working hearse, so fantastically unusual, it was amazing to see.
Last but certainly not least was an unmissable visit to see the World War One-inspired sculpture, 'Tommy' or officially called Eleven ‘O’ One, by Ray Lonsdale. This is absolutely wonderful, the 9.5ft sculpture, made from corten steel, reflects the first minute of peacetime, as a World War One soldier slumps down to contemplate the close of conflict. The sculpture also represents what is now known as Post Traumatic Street Syndrome (PTSD) which many faced as they returned from the battlefields.
Seaham is always a place I love to visit with the dogs and we were all so glad we did this week for all these treats.
