I Haven't Lived At All by Evelyn Knightley

'an anthology of poetry and short stories'

 It's Not
It's not that I want to see you burn
and it's not that I would harm you,
but if I were to see you on the floor
crying out for mercy-
I would turn the other way.

It's not that I hate you
and it's not that I think of you,
but if you were to crawl to my feet
crying to be saved-
I would turn the other way.

It's not that I hold any ill feelings
and it's not that I have erased you,
but when I cried into your arms
and begged you not to leave me-
You turned the other way.

Backseat
I was always on the backseat of your car,
in the backseat of your life
no seatbelt, no safety.
I was ready and waiting
for the collision
for the explosion.

I didn't have to wait long.

 On the Moon
I lived on the moon
and I would look down and watch you.
I used to wonder if you knew I was there.

I lived on the moon
and I wanted to play with you.
I used to wonder if you knew I was there.

I lived on the moon
and I wished I could be elsewhere.
I used to wonder if you knew I was there.

I lived on the moon
and it was always very dark.
I used to wonder if you knew I was there.

  1. Wow! It's not is def an emotional few lines! I'm not a huge poetry lover because often the words don't tell the story or evoke a response from me that I can understand - but those few words did! Very powerful!
