Boring Bags and Rucksacks no more with Gutzy Gear plus Give Away

Gutzy Gear, isn't that just an awesome name for a product, especially children's items.  They make bright, fun, removable designed patches that stick onto the bag/rucksack Gutzy strap.  This turned out to be a brilliantly timed review for me as my son was going abroad for 5 days with his school and it would be a great test on the strength and durability of the shoulder straps but more importantly the patches themselves.
I was lucky enough to receive two sets of the shoulder straps and eight different badges to choose from.  The badges are really eye catching and I couldn't wait for the kids to come home!  By the time they arrived I had already picked out my favorites, which were the dragons. My younger son surprised me by not picking the dragons as his favorite, he loved the cheeky monkey with the shades and the eldest chose the guitar as his favorite.
First we folded the soft Gutzy shoulder straps around  my sons rucksack straps, this was extremely easy to do and I was pleasantly surprised at just how strong these were when attached. Then for the fun part, choosing which and how many patches to stick onto the straps.  What fun !!  I found the patches to be really good quality and when placed onto the straps were very strongly attached. Although we did change the order of the patches a few times this was simply done by removing them and re-sticking with the same initial sticking strength.
Now for the big test, 5 days away from home with the Gutzy Gear in place on his rucksack.  Test one - how will mam cope without him for 5 days?  Test two - How many, if any, patches will still be attached on his return?  Well, Test one - mam didn't cope very well at all and sat watching the clock and counting the days most of the time.  Test two - This even surprised me, ALL the patches returned home and still stuck strongly on the straps as well.  So we have a fail for test one and a unbelievable pass for test two.
What makes this even more fun for the kids is that there are absolutely loads of patches to collect and even swap with their friends, so they can change them as many times as they like.
I really like this product, a great unique idea.  These would make a great present for the kids and the quality and durability of the Gutzy products means that your money is well spent.  One word of warning,  not to be out done, when my husband spotted these he thought it would be a really cool idea to put the strap and a couple of patches on his work bag for a bit of fun, so you may have to buy for one extra child!

Olympic Guard of Honour by Proud Mom

So it was a proud mum this morning as I waved my son off with several other lucky children and teachers from his school to be official Guards of Honour at the Olympic opening Ceremony tonight.  An unbelievable experience for any child and I just so wish I could be there with him.

2,000 schoolchildren from schools across the UK will form a Guard of Honour to line the route as athletes make their way through the Olympic Park into the Olympic Stadium, for the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

The Guard of Honour schools have been selected through the reward and recognition programme of Get Set, the official London 2012 education programme. They have demonstrated a commitment to living the Olympic and Paralympic Values and incorporating them into their school lives and curriculum.

At the start of the Athlete’s Parade, during the athletes’ procession from the Olympic Village to the Olympic Stadium, the Guard of Honour will line the route, holding lanterns and banners they have created to support each of the 204 competing teams.
The 250 schools forming the Guard of Honour will support one of the teams that they have chosen to learn about, my sons team is Holland (although obviously we live in the UK).

As well as having the opportunity to cheer on the world’s best athletes and be part of a global moment, the schoolchildren will also get the exciting chance to tour the Olympic Park and see some of the London 2012 venues before the world turns its attention to Danny Boyle’s Olympic Games Opening Ceremony in the Olympic Stadium later that day.

The Athletes’ Parade will see the participating teams enter the Stadium, nation by nation. Teams enter in alphabetical order, according to the language of the Host Country and IOC protocol order apart from the Greek team which enters first for the Olympic Games, and the team of the Host Nation (Team GB), who enter last.

The television is set for tonight as we watch with pride, hoping to see a slight glimpse of our son in the many thousands of people that will be there.  A unique experience he is hopefully never going to forget.

Well done son xx

This weeks question:-

Q: Summer Reading. What was your favorite book that you were REQUIRED to read when you were in school?

Easy this week, my favourite book and still stays as one of my favourite reads is To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
'Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.'

A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the thirties. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much.

To Kill a Mockingbird is a coming-of-age story, an anti-racist novel, a historical drama of the Great Depression and a sublime example of the Southern writing tradition.

This weeks question:-
Christmas in July: If Santa were to come down your chimney in the middle of summer, which books would you want him to leave for you under the tree?
How long have we got !!
Well I would like the full collections from my two favourite authors - Mary E Pearce and Margaret Dickinson, good old fashioned stories.   And then onto the cheeky side of thinks would be Fifty Shades series.  And if I was also allowed to pick for my hubbie it would have to be all the Sherlock Holmes books, but I don't think Santa's sack will be big enough!!

Book Description
Sexy, savvy Abigail takes care of everyone in her circle of friends and family. However, one night something happens. Distressed, she shows up at the home of ruggedly attractive, pop music producer, Joseph Forrester. He would like them to become a couple. Yet it seems they just may be doomed to remain apart, due to conflicting emotions, and other people --namely Abigail's unscrupulous ex. This man has learned something that she's kept secret. He plans to use garnered knowledge to advance himself, even amid the misfortune that suddenly befalls her! Will the seemingly star-crossed lovers be able to rely on those that Abigail has cared for in the past? Amid a terrible tragedy, will love sustain the couple, or will Abigail simply...slip away, for good, this time?

Our Book Review
Who said 'Love' was ever simple?  Certainly not the stories main characters Abigail and Joseph.  Joseph has loved Abigail for many years, watching her through her failing relationships, watched her suffering, being the friendly shoulder to cry on while he longs for her.  Abigail fragile from life, her mother ran down by a drunken driver, she was raped at college, many failed relationships, seems to be unaware of his feelings.  Will they ever get it together?  Not if the ex, Darre, has his way, he seems to do what he can to get in between them, even using his dead mother as a reason to get back together.

Love shines through as they finally allow themselves to cross the friendship line, but for how long?  Can Joseph stop feeling that he is competing against the 'ex'?  Can Abigail finally admit to herself and Joseph that she really does love him?  Even their friends and close-knit family all know, yet it appears that the two of them are blinded from the fact.  Then a twist.......

A story full of emotion, lust and life, the author describes each character in a great way and you become familiar with their personalities, wants and desires.  At times you may feel that you would like to bang both their heads together to make them realise how they really feel !  One very slight negative was at times overcoming the characters native speech although the story itself works well with this.  An enjoyable and exciting read !!
