Book Review - Murder Under the Microscope by Jane Bennett Munro

Book Review
Murder Under the Microscope
by Jane Bennett Munro

About the Author

Jane Bennett Munro, MD, is a hospital-based pathologist who has been involved in several forensic cases over the course of her thirty-three-year career. Now semi-retired, she lives in Twin Falls, Idaho, where she enjoys music, gardening, and skiing. I've had some pretty interesting experiences and seen some pretty strange things. Some of them would make great stories.  Here's one now, in my first novel of what I hope will become the Toni Day series, Murder Under the Microscope.

Book Description
Murder Under the Microscope is a murder mystery set in a small rural hospital in Twin Falls, Idaho. The story is told in the first person by the pathologist, Toni Day, M.D. Toni is not a forensic pathologist, not a medical examiner, and doesn't deal with murder as a rule; but in this story she finds herself not only involved, but accused, and must solve the mystery to keep herself out of jail and not get murdered herself.

Our Book Review
I found this to be a real thought provoking novel, with twists and turns on every page.  I was hooked from page one, the characters and the setting were superb.

Based around a memorial hospital in Twin Falls, Idaho, a new doctor, Sally Shore, arrives and starts to tarnish the image and credibility of the pathologist Dr Antoinette Day.  After an argument between the two Dr Shore is found deady in Dr Days office.

The above scenario is excellently played out throughout the book, the text and language is easy to read and understand and any jargon is clearly explained.  The knowledge and expertise the author has gained from her own profession as a pathologiest is expertly crafted and scripted into a first class novel.

As murder mysteries are my favourite ready material, for a debut book and author this really rates highly in my library of literature.  I hope this is the first of many novels featuring Dr Day.

Thanks so much, Sharon, that was a lovely review! I do so appreciate your taking the time to read my book and write this review. It was especially uplifting coming right on the heels of a not-so-good one by another reviewer who shall remain nameless. And yes, there will be another Toni Day mystery coming out in the summer, called Too Much Blood.
    Thanks again, Jane
