Remembrance Sunday - Sunday is Quote Day

Welcome to Sunday is Quote Day
I absolutely love quotes, in fact I think I might be getting a little obsessed with them.
They can be so powerful and life changing.

Today is a special day, a day to remember those who have given their lives for the freedom we enjoy today. The poppy has become the symbol of Remembrance worn during the weeks leading to Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.

"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

"When our perils are past, shall our gratitude sleep?" -George Canning

"We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude." -Cynthia Ozick

"This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave." -Elmer Davis

"The more we sweat in peace the less we bleed in war." -Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit

In Flanders Field

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae

  1. Wonderful post! I love quotations. One of my favourites is "Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow." - Mary Ann Radmacher

  2. My favorite quote is from Akeelah and the Bee..Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? (Marianne Williamson) I actually wrote a long post about it on my blog here: http://www.thoughtsofamotherwifeanddaughter.com/search/label/Self%20Esteem

  8. Beautiful! My favorite quote -
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed." - Albert Einstein
