Bank Holiday Cooking and checking out the new cheaper Morrisons #MorrisonsMum

New Cheaper Morrisons Bank Holiday shop !!

Check the latest price cuts here

We thoroughly enjoyed this Spring bank holiday, one step closer to Summer, plus we were treated to decent bank holiday weather for once, or should I say at least it wasn't raining !!  We started our weekend off by watching our eldest play cricket at Bishop Auckland, while I was also playing Monopoly with his younger brother, really enjoyed our day together although I did lose.  Sunday arrived and I was really excited to be selected to be part of the #MorrisonsMum (and dad) shop to celebrate their new cheaper pricing.  Once we were all ready we set off to Teesside Park, looking forward to hopefully finding some great savings and filling our cupboards with our bank holiday shop goodies.  As well as buying what we need to watch our movie later after having our favourite home made dish, Lasagne.

My parents used to religiously shop at this Morrisons every Thursday evening without fail so I do love the familiarity of the store.  I always have three favourite stops at Morrisons.  The first hits you as soon as you step through the door and that is the fruit and veg section, ever since tagging along with my parents Morrisons have always offered such fresh, good quality fruit and veg, in fact I would go so far in saying probably the best out of all the other supermarkets in our area (strictly my opinion only, yet honest).

These great deals were everywhere in the store, so many to choose from
Yes I'm one of the shoppers who love watching the cold steam pouring over to keep them fresh!
My second favourite stop in store, the flowers.  I love Morrison's flowers, they are not only fresh and last for ages but their prices have always been so reasonable.

Pleased to say, yes he did buy me a lovely bunch of flowers :-)
On to my third favourite stop has always been the butchers, there is just something wonderful about seeing so much fresh meat available.  I have never been disappointed with the quality of the meat we have bought here, it always tastes great.

Morrisons have trained butchers and their meat is 100% British!!

I already knew before arriving to the store that the minced beef was one of the new cheaper prices, in fact it was 2 for $3.50, so I headed straight over - part of our Lasagne ingredients.  I also knew that the rump steak was half price, how can you refuse that either.
You will find the 'I'm Cheaper' signs throughout the store.

Shopping around with so many offers we did spend over original budget but now have well stocked cupboards and a full fridge which will keep us going for a lot more than one week.  We we're lucky to find that some of the items on are list we're actual now cheaper or were on a special offer, even the Lasagne sheets.  The boys also managed to get their shop for the movie later!

Special mention is to Russell on the checkouts, who not only alerted us that the boys movie night shopping bag was split, he also helped replace it for us without asking him, thank you.

So once we got home, unpacked and rested up, it was time for cooking.  Although somehow the boys managed to twist my arm to make some quick cakes too before starting on the Lasagne.

Made with the help of Morrisons Banana and Buttercream Frosting
(rather generous sprinkling from son)

You can find the low prices and deals we found over at our Google Shop Album too.

Our Lasagne Recipe
Serves 4 - Large portions (cost per portion £1.64)
Serves 6-8 - Smaller portions

Ingredients
Mince Meat
2 Onions
Pinch of salt and pepper
400g Chopped Tomatoes
9 sheets of Lasagne Pasta
2 Oxo cubes
3 or 4 Large spoonfuls of Lasagne white sauce
Cheddar Cheese for Topping

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F/Gas 6
  2.  Line the base of the dish with 3 pasta sheets
  3. Brown mince then add onions and cook until soft.
  4. Add 3/4 tin of chopped tomatoes and around 1/2 pint of Oxo stock until you get a nice consistency.
  5. Allow to simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. Spread half of the mince from the pan onto of the pasta sheets
  7. Layer with another 3 Lasagne pasta sheets and repeat again.
  8. Top the layer with white sauce.
  9. Sprinkle to cover with Cheddar cheese or your own choice.
  10. Bake for around 40-50 minutes until piping hot.

And of course, no great bank holiday can start without a Bacon sandwich with freshly made bread.

Thumbs up Morrisons !!

I was selected to be a  #MorrisonsMum as part of the new cheaper pricing celebration launch.  This shop has been partly compensated as part of that event.

  2. Oh-I haven't had lasagna in a very long time--think I might be headed to the nearest Italian Restaurant very soon! Yours looks delicious! Since I don't exactly live near where this store is (with those prices I wish I did) I won't be able to take advantage of thise prices.

  17. That bacon sandwich looks so appetising! I enjoyed reading this as I don't shop in Morrisons but a local small branch has recently opened up near me and I keep meaning to go in. I think we can sometimes get used to certain supermarkets and not even consider going elsewhere. The herbs and asparagus stall looks really well presented. #binkylinky
